Horse mackerel fish

Frozen Horse Mackerel (Trachurus murphyi picturatus) originates from the coast of Morocco. This fish is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which help lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood. It also reduces the risk of atherosclerosis and the formation of blood clots (thrombus).

Description

The common horse mackerel resembles mackerel because its body is just as slender and fusiform. Her caudal peduncle – the posterior part of her body – is very thin. Its back is rather dark, of a shade ranging from gray to greenish and its white silvery sides are crossed by a line bristling with spikes. It has large eyes and a prominent jaw. Its gills are highlighted by small black spots.

Adult, it can reach 45 cm. Some specimens are even up to 60 cm tall.

Habitat and food Horse mackerel is a pelagic fish that means it lives on the surface (like sardine, mackerel or anchovies) It is a fish called gregaire because it lives in group and swims in bench. It’s mostly active at night.
